Future developments

INTEGRATED BATTLE GROUPS: IBGs are brigade sized, agile, self-suf ficient combat formation, which can swiftly launch strikes against an adversary in case of hostilities. Each IBG troop strength of around 5000, bigger than a brigade(3000-3500) but smaller than a Division (10000-12000). These will have a mix of every arm and service like infantry, Artillery, Engineers, Signals, air Defence and others. Army has decided to reconstitute its standing forces into 12 modernize IBG’s.

It is a unif ied command under which all the resources of The Army, The Navy and The Air Force are pooled, depending on the threat perception. There will be a unif ied commander for the particular geographical theatre of security concern. As of now, the service have to speak to each other in times of need and urgency to request their assets to conduct a particular operation. The proposal is to have a theatre commander(will report to chief of staff committee)who will have operational control of the assets under his command, thus enhancing jointness among the forces, and also reducing duplication of resources.
