{/* Start of picture text /} Dark Chapter in Indian Aviation. An Air India plane bound for London Gatwick
took off from Ahmedabad at 1.38 pm local time last Thursday. On board were 242
people. Within moments of takeoff, the airliner crashed into a heavily built-up area,
sending up a fireball of exploding jet fuel. Initial reports suggested all passengers and
crew had perished. Then, miraculously, there was one survivor — a British Indian
man, who, while badly injured, was able to walk out of the wreckage by himself. The
tragedy became more gruesome when news started pouring in that a large number of
medical students having their lunch were also caught as the aircraft hit the hospital
complex. The number of casualties from this tragedy may be around 280, with many
still missing.
While many theories are going around as to the causes of the crash, we will know only
when the professional investigations report is out in the public domain. This is the
first crash of the Boeing Dreamliners and is a huge setback to Air India, which was
taken over by the TATA group only a few years ago.
Israel-Iran Conflict. The western Asian region was on boil with Israle carrying out
massive preemptive strikes deep into Iran, targeting not only their Nuclear facilities
but also top military leadership and the nuclear scientists. Iran responded with its
strikes, targeting cities and infrastructure. The impact of this war on the region and
